Crestview Elementary
West Des Moines Community School District
Clive, Iowa
Client Challenge: Implement facility improvements at Crestview Elementary School per the West Des Moines Community School District 10 Year Facility Master Plan. The existing 60,000 square foot building was constructed in 1960, with subsequent additions in 1966, 1969, 1976 and 1990. The project requires new mechanical, electrical and life safety systems and major renovation of all areas within the existing building shell. Further minor building additions are called for to meet long term programming needs at this site.
SVPA Solution: The design team provided a solution that integrates a new high efficiency mechanical system into the existing building along with electrical, technology and life safety enhancements. The existing spaces within the building will be given a fresh new look through a variety of new interior finishes. All existing areas are to receive new carpet or vinyl tile floor covering, new paint on the walls, and new acoustic tile ceilings. There will also be a variety of new built-in millwork elements incorporated into each of the classrooms. Minor building additions of approximately 7,000 square feet are designed to allow for expanded special needs programs, additional classrooms and new mechanical equipment rooms. The project will also ensure a sound building envelope through scheduled roof replacement, masonry tuck pointing, and window replacements.
