Knoxville High School Auditorium
Knoxville Community School District
Challenge: Create a performing arts center for use by the school district and the community.
SVPA Solution: The new auditorium was placed on the west side of the high school where it is adjacent to the vocal and instrumental music spaces. The orientation of the new auditorium allows for a stand-alone public entrance on the southeast side and a secondary entrance on the west side for daily use by students and staff and access to parking at the west. A connecting lobby between the two entrances allows flexibility on entering and exiting from the facility, but provides the security the school desired. The auditorium, which seats up to 700 patrons, uses a mix of acoustical block, wall panels, split face block and burnished block to create a warm, inviting space for audience members. “Back of house” amenities include a green room, dressing rooms, loading dock and set workshop.
