STEM@Drake
Drake University
Des Moines, Iowa

Challenge: The STEM@Drake initiative is focused on enhancing existing academic programs and adding new programs in science, mathematics, computer science and education. The “E” in Drake’s STEM program will stand for the School of Education.

SVPA Solution: SVPA Architects is collaborating with Holabird & Root Architects out of Chicago on a series of major construction projects. SVPA is the lead architectural firm on the proposed new standalone, four-story School of Education, Math and Computer Science building. The lower level of the building will house The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center (previously known as Character Counts). This new ethics center program will include meeting and collaboration spaces, as well as staff offices. The first and second floors will house each of the departments within the School of Education. The third floor will contain classrooms and faculty offices for the math and computer science departments. A skywalk connection to Olin Hall will allow teaching and learning space to be shared with the science complex and foster cross-departmental interaction.
