About Rachael

Rachael graduated from Iowa State University in May 2024. She completed summer internships that provided her with hands-on experience in both residential and commercial design projects. Rachael has been involved in multiple stages of the design process, including space planning, selecting finishes, attending client meetings, and preparing construction documents.

When did you know you wanted to be an interior designer?

“When I was 12 my family finally got cable TV and I discovered HGTV. I loved watching Flip or Flop, Love It or List It, and of course Fixer Upper. I decided then that I wanted to design spaces just like Joanna Gaines. I quickly learned that interior design is nothing like you see on TV, but the added technicality of it makes it much more exciting.”

What phase of a project is your favorite and why?

“I really enjoy concept design because it is where you can dream up so many possibilities for a project. It is during this phase where you can develop a guiding concept with the client that encapsulates their vision and values. All design decisions can be tied back to the concept and help to create a cohesive design.”
